Domenico De Sole is member of the Board of Gap Inc. Former President and Chief Executive Officer of Gucci Group NV, and Chairman of the Group's Management Board. De Sole joined Gucci in 1984, as Chief Executive Officer of Gucci America Inc. He remained in New York until 1994, when he moved to Italy as the Group's Chief Operating Officer. He was appointed to his current position the following year. De Sole has played a leading role in reestablishing the exclusivity and profitability of the Gucci brand. He achieved this by focusing on Gucci's core leather products, investing in advertising and communication, as well as in men's and women's fashion ready-to-wear. In 1997 De Sole lead the purchase of Gucci Timepieces thereby taking direct control of the company's most important license. He strengthened the company's information and logistics processes, improved efficiency and upgraded and expanded the network of directly operated stores. At the end of 1995 De Sole successfully led Gucci Group NV's listing on the New York and Amsterdam stock exchanges. In 1999 he successfully fought a creeping takeover attempt, securing Gucci's independence as a basis for continued expansion and enhancing shareholder value. Towards the end of 1999, Gucci completed the acquisition of Yves Saint Laurent, Sanofi Beauté (now YSL Beauté) and Sergio Rossi. In 2000, Gucci acquired Boucheron, Alexander McQueen and Bedat & Co and in 2001, Bottega Veneta, Stella McCartney and Balenciaga. Under De Solès leadership the Group has become one of the most profitable luxury multi brand companies in the world. In 2003 Domenico De Sole has been indicated as "Europès Best CEO" in the luxury goods industry by Institutional Investor magazine, according to a poll among portfolio managers, securities analysts and investment houses. Domenico De Sole was born in Rome in 1944. After receiving his law degree, he moved to the United States in 1970, where he earned a Masters Degree from Harvard University and became a partner in the Washington law firm of Patton, Boggs & Blow. Mr. De Sole is a U.S. citizen. He is married and has two children.
