General Manager, American Express

Giglio Del Borgo is General Director, Italy for American Express Services Europe Ltd. since September 1, 2004. In 2007 he was promoted to SVP International Consumer and Small Business Services.

He joined American Express in January 2001 as Vice President & Head of Consumer and Small Business Payments & Financial Services Italy and leading the Country Executive Team that supports of the President of Southern Europe.

He first worked with American Express in 1985 to 1995, holding several positions in Italy such as: Manager Quality Assurance (1985 - 1988), General Services Manager (1988 - 1990), Director of Merchant Services & EDC Development (1990 – 1991), Director of Merchant Sales Italy (1992), Director of Customer Services & Credit Control (1993), Director of Merchant Business Italy & Greece (1994 – 1995).

Between 1995 – 2000, he worked at STREAM , a digital pay TV and multimedia company owned by Telecom Italia and then by News Corporation, covering a number of positions: VP of SBU Business to Consumer (1995 – 1997), VP of Strategic Marketing & Business Planning (1997 – 1998) and SVP of Marketing, Sales and Customer Relationship Management (1998 – 2000).

Mr. Del Borgo was also Advisor at DOCEST, the Foreign Studies Center at ENI (1981 – 1984) and Senior Analyst at CLES, the Center for Economic Studies directed by Prof. Paolo Leon (1984 – 1985).

Mr. Del Borgo was born in Cairo, Egypt. He completed his studies at the University of Siena, and then participated in several management specialization courses.

Mr. Del Borgo pays special attention to creating a positive work environment. Under his management American Express has been voted amongst the top ten “Great Places to Work” in Italy. It has also been awarded for its strides in encouraging equal gender opportunity.
